Steve Borden, better known to wrestling fans across the globe as Sting, appears to be ready to retire. After months of speculation it is assumed that the upcoming TNA pay-per-view Bound For Glory will be Sting’s last match.
Sting is perhaps the most famous wrestler never to wrestle with the WWF / WWE. He won 13 World Heavyweight Championships over the course of his career competing in the NWA, WCW, and TNA.
The height of Sting’s popularity occurred with the height of WCW and pro wrestling’s popularity between 1996-1998. With long black hair, a trenchcoat, and black and white face paint inspired by the film “The Crow” Sting would lurk in the rafters and repel down to the ring to help aid the other babyfaces while he feuded against Hulk “Hollywood” Hogan and the NWO.
Though Sting turned down offers from Vince McMahon and the WWF numerous times, it is said that both WWE and Sting have a positive professional relationship. Since the WWE owns all of the footage from Sting’s long career with the NWA and WCW there are talks of a “Best Of Sting” DVD being released by the WWE after his retirement is official.
