The smallest wrestler on the WWE roster was suspended thirty (30) days for possible steroid use with accordance to he company’s “wellness” policy. Rey Mysterio whose real name is Oscar Gutierrez is currently the WWE Intercontinental Champion competing on their Smackdown! brand.
Those who haven’t followed wrestling may seem this comes as a shock as Mysterio is very small in stature especially compared to the giants who usually rule the wrestling ring.

This isn’t the first time Mysterio has been linked to such drugs, however.
In 2007 a Sports Illustrated article investigated a steroid and HGH (human growth hormone) ring used by numerous professionall athletes across several sports. The article named several WWE wrestlers including Mysterio as being tied to the ring. According to the article Mysterio was issued prescriptions over the internet for nondrolone (Daca-Durabolin) and stanozol (also known as winstrol, the same steroid Rafael Palmeiro tested positive for).
Also in 2007 Mysterio was linked to Dr. Phil Astin after the double murder and suicide committed by Chris Benoit. According to Mysterio he was prescribed only pain medication by Astin following his knee surgery.

Mysterio is expected to lose his Intercontinental Championship before beginning his suspension on September 2nd.
How this will affect Mysterio in the future remains to be seen. Other wrestlers who have been caught through WWE testing have seen their pushes dwindle and their spot in the company taken away. Mysterio’s appeal may hurt or help him. The superstar is enormously popular with Latino audiences and children, as he stops and connects with young fans at all live events.
