The story of the past

Many of us WWE fans understand the reason why the company has fallen in popularity over the years! There were fans like me who could never stop watching WWF/WWE whenever the show aired once a week.

At the time, there were no general managers. Raw and Smackdown was one full show with the continuation of the storylines. Mr Mcmahon was on both shows throwing his weight around everywhere trying to ruin the face superstars like ‘The Rock’ and ‘Stone Cold Steve Austin!’

It was only some time after the WWF/WCW+ECW war that Raw and Smackdown became two separate shows with the first two general managers being introduced.

What has happened to the company?

I have no idea why they stopped the entertainment they once provided. Maybe it was due to the increase of superstar injuries that led them to change the extreme violence. However, it could also have been the result of the WWF/WWE being the only company that hosted wrestling shows for the audience. In the past, WCW and ECW were the challenges that WWF/WWE faced for a long time. Vince Mcmahon was struggling to find ways of improving his shows to bring in more viewers. This was when he introduced more stronger and epic storylines with more extreme violence. It was known as ‘Attitude Era’ and it boosted the viewership of the show.

Since he bought the company in 2001, he has nothing to worry about. The audience have the option to watch WWE or do something different with their lives.

What has happened to the old superstars?

Many of the WWE fans have been thoughtful as to why the best WWE superstars are leaving. Some have moved onto movie acting while others have retired. I know two of the best WWF/WWE superstars in the past that will never be coming back again! Please check ‘Two Most Favourite WWF/WWE Superstars of all Time.’

I can name some of the best superstars that made a huge impact on WWF/WWE and without them; the company will never rise again!

Superstars such as:

  • Stone Cold Steve Austin
  • The Rock
  • Brock Lesnar
  • Bret Hart
  • Hulk Hogan
  • Tazz
  • Kevin Nash

and more…

Strong storylines with violence

Throughout the 90’s, WWF/WWE was a show mainly for older teenagers and adults from 16-21 years of age. This was when the WWF/WWE had produced quality episodes of entertainment for the audience. Since the WCW and ECW were bought by WWF/WWE’s chairman, Vince Mcmahon, the age rating for the show fell down from 16 to 14 and then PG. This means that the show is now viewable to younger children at the age of 6 with less of it being for the adults.

Less interesting matches than before

As the age rating fell down, the storylines were less interesting and entertaining. The old storylines would make you crave for the next episode. In my experience, I was getting a little too anxious to wait. Today, I cannot even watch WWE in peace. I tend to skip most of the episode except the main event!

Conclusion

It is a shame that we can never see the entertainment WWF/WWE once provided. I am wondering if one day, their company will go out of business. Hopefully, Vince Mcmahon can bring the ‘Attitude Era’ and restore the old WWF/WWE!

I used to watch wrestling in my younger days of Giant Haystacks, Big Daddy and many others but began to lose interest soon after. I suppose mainly that it was farsical.
but I suppose luckily it was or we could have had more serious injuries.
But a good interesting topic and we have our taste. Yes mine is Soccer but I get bored of professional players diving about. My other is Archery where there is a variety, especially if one doesn’t like their neighbour. (Only Joking)

    Well Done Shaf.
