Squared Circle Blog 4-1-09

Apparently Tazz’s Contract expired this Tuesday and so he is done with the company. I surely didn’t see this one coming and I don’t think very many other people did either. While the web sites are saying that they have parted on good terms and the door is open for him to come back, one his to wonder if the constant berating in his earphones from the chairman of the board had anything to do with this present situation. Keep in mine that this is the second announcer to walk away from Smack Down in under a year. Not to mention the fact that “Good Old JR” Jim Ross cant be happy right now if he has to go into Wrestle Mania 25 cold with someone he hasn’t worked with before. Vince and his “Creative Team” where the one’s split all of the announcer’s in the first place and then Foley split , having enough of Vince . They shuffled things around and moved Tazz in and know he’s gone too. I don’t believe in coincidence , so just chalk this one up to to the ever growing list of things that might this years WM suck.

Four former Divas have been announced for the 25 Diva Battle Royal this Sunday . Tammy Sytch, AKA Sunny was quoted this past weekend at a ECW themed Wrestling convention called Hardcore reunion , that she was still about ten pounds away from being In “Sunny Shape”. The other three are Moll Holly , Victoria , and Torrie Wilson. This will leave three spots open and if Monday nights 18 Diva Tag match is any indication , Santino Marella will be one of this one of those three. I have no real interest in who wins this and if Santino does he is going to luck real stupid sporting the queen of Wrestle Mania Crown. What I think will happen is Santino will be the last in the ring and Mae Young will sneak up on him and toss him out.

Under the heading of only in America, a nineteen your old power ball winner is living his dream by financing a new all female promotion called “Wrestlicious” . Its got Jimmy Hart involved in it as the host and I think a producer from Glow . It also has a lot of developmental castoffs from WWE and TNA. Oddly enough one of the WWE castoffs , Lacey Von Erich is scheduled for a Playboy shoot right around the time the 13 episodes that Fox his bought are supposed to start airing . PT Barnum had it right , just spell my name right .

This past week Vince spoke to the Hollywood reporter and some very interesting comments about the competition . He basically said that they were TV-14 and the WWE was PG and that some of the things they were doing were “Reprehensible” . Miss Dixie when asked to reply said that she was happy to now that Vince watches TNA and that she agrees with him that things such as a brutal beating of a sixty year old man , a vicious home invasion , and gratuitous man on woman violence is reprehensible , and that was just the last three Monday nights. Good for her, TNA needs corporate face to start taking some shots at the evil empire directly . This whole ratings thing is whats holding the WWE down and I might add is why TNA is starting to pick up viewers despite the fact that their PPV have been less then stellar. This is a subject that has always bugged me about the marketing strategy. I was a fan of wrestling from the early seventies when I was a kid and wanted to watch something on TV after cartoons where over. The flaw in the marketing strategy is your young fans grow up, they figure out that it isn’t as real as they thought but they still like it anyway but they story lines still appeal to kids and that’s where you start to lose people. With your backs against the wall during the Monday night wars , you guys had the balls to change . If your not careful , ROH will sneak up on you and pass you by in a heart beat.
