Sorry I haven’t been around for a while , still having some computer issues that I needed to deal with. I hope I finally got it all worked out. About Sunday night , it never fails, when they have a PPV that I personally have very little interest in it turns out to be one of the better ones that they have had. I really had little interest in what might happen at Backlash other then how they were going to get one belt back to Smack Down and low and behold from start to finish it wasn’t a bad show. The whole Santino/Santina thing is really annoying but other then that it was a pleasant surprise .
The night opened with the ECW belt up for grabs as the Champ Jack Swagger took on newly returned Christian . Swagger has really stepped his game since it began to leak out that Vince wasn’t real happy with his progress. He had a real good match with Cena this past Sunday he and “ Captain Charisma” got things off and running . Swagger pushed Christian for a majority of the match , managing to cut off any momentum that Christian tried to mount .in the end they both had the same idea of taking the pads off the turn buckle on opposite sides . Christian managed to throw swagger into the one he had stripped off. He then hit the Kill switch and 123…, new ECW Champ Christian . An interesting postscript to this one was backstage , Christian was that as he was being congratulated in the back , he had his first face to face encounter with his old friend Edge. All I can really say on this one is , what are going to do you when you already blew up every viable storyline you could have used to get these two together.
Jericho and Steamboat were next. A good indicator that this might be the last time we might see the dragon in the ring is the fact that it looked like he had been hitting the Grecian Formula pretty hard. Look I thought that Steamboat might win this because I thought they wanted to extend this a while longer but in the end I have another question . With the draft over and every one settling in , how are Edge and Jericho, the companies top two heels, going to coexist on the same show. You really cant turn either one of them and an alliance will only go so far , how are they going to deal with this problem .
Kane vs. Punk was the next match . This one was the most pointless match of the night . The whole idea was Punk beat Kane for the MITB case and this was payback. Well Kane got his pound of flesh, insuring that punk wasn’t going to cash in the case on that night like I thought he was. The whole thing with Punk having the case unnerves me a bit because if they don’t play it right , they could really mess things up. I like Punk but what people have to remember Punk was brought in to fill the shoes of Rob Van am. While he has done this well, there’s a part of his history that says he can ply the heel and do it well. The problem is I don’t think they have the stones to think that Punk can play a heel. So you have the two biggest heels against a guy that might be stuck as a face. Smack Down will be interesting the next few months since all of the big names have been shifted back to Raw and since also the may not have a network to have the show on soon.
I quite Hardy vs. Hardy was next. With all of the stuff swirling around about Jeff not resigning I thought this one was going to go to Matt. Little did I suspect that there would be duct tape and rope involved as Jeff Made Matt plead for his life and then put him through the table anyway. I have had a few days to think about this whole thing and I think this whole Jeff wont Resign might be a work. I don’t see how the WWE is going to let it leak out that one of their top talents wanted out with three or four months left on his contract . If it isn’t a work then it might be Jeff Using any leverage he has to get the best deal he can. Either way go for it Jeff, your one of the few and dwindling reasons I still tune into this show.
Like I said before the whole , the whole Santino / Santina thing is just to much. At a time when the TNA knock outs aren’t what they once where , the diva’s still cant come up with anything better then Santino in drag is just weak. The Diva talent rooster has never been deeper and with Two titles this is the most interesting thing they can come up with.
The six man match for the title, a gimmick match that TNA would have a hard time doing, , was in fact sold very well by Batista and HHH and I think had more to do with HHH taking a little time off then anything else . HHH will come back a Heel when Batista becomes champ and they will have a long program that will start at summer Slam. In the end they got what they wanted out of it , Orton is the champ and on the ultimate power trip.
The final match of the evening was yet another go round with Cena and Edge. Last man standing , why don’t they call what they used to, a death match . Maybe I’m just too old school for my own good . Any how they went around the arena and ended up on the ramp . Just when Cena was about to put him away , the “Big Show” came out and choke slammed Cena into a spot light. He was counted out and Edge was the new champ. Cant Remember the last time all three belts changed hands on one show, but they pushed off in a good direction . Lets hope they can sustain it for awhile.
