Sometimes when a series of games gets to be successful over the years the programmers can become a bit lazy. Knowing it will sell when it hits the shelves brings a level of complacency that result in newer versions simply having a few things tweaked instead of focusing on previous faults.
Instead of focusing on the faults I will go into what they can do to improve the games in my eyes as a casual gamer of over fifteen years.
The first move would be to completely rework the horrid control system because in their attempts to make it better they’ve simply made it more complicated and less enjoyable to simply pick up a joy pad and jump into the game.
Season mode has always been a bit of a problem, the last couple of games focusing on using real wrestlers voices which is a nice touch, but not needed to be the selling feature of the mode. Multi player season would be a tremendous feature along with adding a system that remembers who each character has fought in the year so there’s a flow to it all. I for one wouldn’t mind having to read text on a screen during a new storyline instead of having to go through the same one over and over.
It also seems each year the fan base moan about the lack of a real in depth roster, but this could be eased by enhancing the create-a-wrestler feature so you really could make just about anyone. It’s unusual that a feature these days sucks when compared to older ones. But you could elaborate it further that when the game is released official “new” wrestlers are available via PS3 online or the Xbox 360 Live area that are created using the parts and methods in the game, that you can add to your game to save in an empty slot.
Online measures need to be made to stop people cheating via shark codes to create super stated wrestlers that are no fun battling against. Invisible wrestlers, wrestlers who’ve only been given moves that can’t be blocked, such things take away from the enjoyment and make the casual gamer slightly pissed off at the nerd factor.
These are just a few things that could be done to improve the series, which I feel could end up being threatened by Midway’s TNA Impact game if the programmers are not too careful.
