“ Pro Wrestling News and Notes From the Net”
With the big trade being the biggest news of the week I thought I’d take a look at the implications of the moves on all three shows. Mark Henry stole the show on Raw last week when he pinned the World wrestling Entertainment champ Randy Orton as the last wrestler in a Gauntlet match . This after Swagger came in and took Orton off his feet and then stepped out on the ring apron and let himself counted out .Henry as a baby face peaks my interest . The ending of Raw this past Monday got Henry over with the Raw crowd but since his Mic skills will always be in question and also since he is on Raw now , probably wont have Hall of Fame wrestler Tony Atlas as his babysitter anymore it will be interesting to see how he handles the push on his own. Swagger I could see jumping into the U.S. title mix with Kofi Kingston . An excellent contrast in styles would make this an excellent program and could help out both wrestlers in the long run. Bourne is on Raw because Rey Mysterio is on Smack Down Pure and simple. Raw need s a Daredevil type and Bourne is the Rey 2.0 . As for the women, Gail Kim is where she should have been in the first place, the better women wrestlers are on Raw. She was getting slowly buried on Smack Down, on Raw she will be a top flight performer who will be in the title Mix soon. Alicia Fox is a real diamond in the rough who needs some seasoning but has a tremendous up side.
In the land of Extreme , Regal, Benjamin , Goldust , and the Bella Twins are all on the Extreme Championship wrestling Roster now . Regal, based on what happened this past week , may be headed for a program for a feud with the big Russian Kozlov . This is not necessarily a bad idea but who would be the Heel and who would be the face. Benjamin, well what can you say about him.I have said this before and I’ll say it again , the best thing that could happen to Benjamin is for him to get the released by the WWE, take a few months off, Three sounds like a good number . Then head south and become the star you should have been a long time ago. I know that Mic Work is Important , but when you get held down the way Benjamin has been for so long despite your in ring ability , it’s time to flip the script . Benjamin has the potential to be a huge star in total nonstop action and they know it , that’s why they wont let him go. Goldust and the Bella twins aren’t long for the WWE. The twins got put on a show that has no other women. Twin women is one of the best Gimmicks you could have , in ring and out and yet these two are on a show where they are the only women . Goldust was making some head way when they put him with Hornswoggle but since nobody knows what they are going to do with the little guy now , that tends to put both their jobs in jeopardy . Look the Whole point of these trades was to clear out ECW so they could start bringing more people up from Florida Championship Wrestling . Well based on what I saw Tuesday , I hope they got more then an Irish guy that needs a tanning bed and a Barrack Obama look a like.
The big winner in the trades this past week Smack Down . Matt Hardy is now on the same show as his brother Jeff for the first time in a long . While their current relationship isn’t what I want, it can always change if it is done right. In my mind the whole creative problems started a long time ago when they had the first draft and they split the Hardy’s in the first place. This past year if they had just not gone with the Matt vs. Jeff feud and let things play out the way they originally had planed , they could have had the Hardy’s and Edge and Christian in a series of matches that would have that would have made serious money and brought the house down on several PPV’s. Finlay is also back on Smack Down and while I’m happy he still is working , they could have left him on ECW and let him hold the belt for a bit. He’s earned it and it wouldn’t hurt to have him hold the strap for minute . The Biggest draft choice for Smack Down is the Hart Dynasty .
David Hart Smith, Tyson Kidd, and Natalya Niedhart are a big part of the immediate future of the WWE and now they are in position to make some real noise in the company . The WWE has invested a lot of time and Money in these three and they are going to get the push of a lifetime to sell this . Kidd is talented but small . He’s going to have to work to get somewhere . Natalya needs to get back in the Ring . Her in ring talent has been wasted way to long . Smith will be the key to their long term success . He will have to get over quickly as a viable contender to a title if this is going to work. I see him in the mix for the IC Title soon.
As far as the competition goes , it s becoming clear that Stings swan song will be taking apart the Main event Mafia . He was kicked out last week and this past Thursday appeared in the ring and took a couple of the members. There has been a lot about TV ratings and how TNA wants to do better then WWE ‘s weaker shows , pointing out that it has already beat ECW. Well I wish them luck in this because the pressure needs to be kept up on the WWE.
