World Wrestling Entertainment have signed top-indie-talent and ‘King of Wrestling,’ Claudio Castagnoli. Catagnoli has already reported to WWE’s development territory, Florida Championship Wrestling, and changed his twitter name to his new ring name, Antonio Cesario.

In June, Cesaro (nee Castagnoli) wrestled a dark match with longtime tag-partner Chris Hero as “The Kings of Wrestling” and reportedly impressed officials. There is no news of Hero joining as well, but it seems to be a distinct possibility, Cesaro having mentioned that he would like to join WWE as a package with Hero and with WWE themselves featuring their tag-division more prominently.

The signing of the former-Castagnoli is yet more evidence of WWE and Triple-H’s new strategy of signing established indie stars which has lead them to acquire such talent as Mistico (Sin Cara), Amazing Kong (Kharma), Tyler Black (Seth Rollins) and Jon Moxley (Dean Ambrose) within the last year.

This is in fact the second time Cesaro has signed for WWE. He originally signed a development deal with them in November 2006 but never appeared for them before being released – allegedly due to visa difficulties.

The new Antonio Cesaro is swiss by birth but has been wrestling in America for over 7 years. Billed as standing at 6 foot 5 and 222 pounds, he has the physical stature which WWE like, as well as having buckets of charisma and wrestling ability.

Antonio Cesaro, wrestling as Claudio Castagnoli and teaming with Chris Hero, will be appearing on Ring of Honor’s TV debut for Sinclair Broadcasting Saturday 24th September – Check if its available in your area here.

Reports suggest Castagnoli’s partner, Chris Hero is going through the signing process with WWE

Claudio, awesome, always been a huge fan of him. Under any name, he should be good and if Hero’s going to follow, all the better. Two ace talents and also perhaps the best tag team in the world today.

Thanks for the comment Matt. Claudio has always been one of my favourites since starting watching ROH a year ago. He’s such a complete package, great physical presence, better worker, and he has such natural charisma/can talk. It’s a wonder how it took them so long to resign him. Definitely the best English Speaking Team. Probably the best stable too, if you include Sara Del Rey, one of the best female WRESTLERS in the world.

Oh my god!! 100 swings. The one who was being swinged got a free roller coaster ride! Nice share. I was a huge fan of WWE when I was a kid. Now, I still am but don’t get much of time to watch ‘em. Hence I don’t know the new wrestlers.
