Shane Carwin vs. Brock Lesnar.

At first Shane Carwin was scheduled to take on a dominant wrestler much like himself, Cain Velasquez. But for some odd reason the UFC execs decided to scrap the fight between Carwin and Velasquez, instead throwing Carwin right into the deep end by giving him a shot of Heavyweight gold by taking on current champion, Brock Lesnar. This could be a very bad move for Carwin, he would have gained so much knowledge and experience from fighting Velasquez. To take on another dominant wrestler like Cain would have done wonders for Carwin, who has never fought anyone with as much wrestling dominance as himself. It would have set him up perfectly to take on the beast that is Brock Lesnar, a man who is a phenomenal wrestler, and his pure strength alone is enough to beat the best heavyweights the UFC has to offer. The reason for this change of plans is most likely to cash in on the recent conflict of interests between Carwin and Lesnar. It was Carwin who was one of the first to speak out on the antics of Brock Lesnar at UFC 100 and would even go as far to say that “Brock won’t be able to hold me or Cain down like that”. Sensing a grudge match, the UFC execs were quick to sign the two up to fight.
As far as the fight goes, it could go either way. Generally when great wrestlers match up, their wrestling abilities cancel each others out and the fight turns into a stand up war. This could play into the hands of either man but you’d have to give the advantage to Carwin, who has shown destructive punching power in everyone of his UFC fights. But that’s not to say that Brock doesn’t have brutal punching power either, but when it comes down to it, Carwin is a monster with his hands. Despite the fact that both men have devastating punching power, this could become obsolete when you look at both men’s chins. In Brock’s last fight, he was deathly rocked by a knee from Frank Mir, a strike that very well could have ended the fight if Mir was able to keep his composure, but luckily for Lesnar he had his wits about him and took Mir down. Whereas Carwin was almost put to sleep twice in his last fight against Gabriel Gonzaga, that fight did well to expose the weak chin of Carwin but it did even better to prove that Shane as incredible recovery abilities, as he was able to take the two huge punches and come back to give Gonzaga a taste of his own medicine that sent the big Brazilian into dreamland.
This could be a very quick fight for either man, all it would take is one punch and this fight could very well be over. Don’t expect to see much wrestling in this one. Carwin wins via TKO.
