11 Moments That Changed the WWE

Great moments in wrestling.

I have a number of guilty pleasures in my life.  Or so I’m told.  I have rather eccentric tastes in music… mine may very well be the only collection in the world that contains Bad Religion, Meatloaf, and Bon Jovi.  I love 80’s brat pack movies.  I count the days till Final Fantasy releases new games.  And I enjoy wrestling.  Yup, I freely admit it.  I have been an avid fan of the WWE since the mid 90’s.  And I offer no apologies.  I have watched it evolve from a sidenote cable program to the industry it has become.  And so, as I have found that Triond gives me the venue to do,  I’m making a list.  For my enjoyment, and that of other fans.  If you are not a fan, by all means, skip this article.  If you are…..

Here then, is my list.  11 events that changed the face of wrestling…..

STONE COLD WINS WWE TITLE FOR THE FIRST TIME!

The man revolutionized his trade almost single handedly, and became a cultural icon.  Throw in a future hall of famer (Shawn Michaels) Mike Tyson (before he went all cannibal)  and the Wrestlemania backdrop, and this might be the biggest moment in wwe history.

MICK FOLEY WINS TITLE

Not nearly as drastic as Stone Cold’s first title, but if you’re a fan of wrestling, this was a great moment.  And all of the big names were involved… Stone Cold, Vince McMahon, DX.

UNDERTAKER ENTRANCE

Doesn’t matter which one… Austin’s breaking glass, Hogan’s music, The Rock’s “Do you smell…”  all brought the house down, but no one has ever caused an arena to eplode the way is does with that single tolling bell.

UNDERTAKER AND MICK FOLEY… HELL IN A CELL.

No description needed.  Has there ever been a better match?

THE CONFRONTATION BETWEEN HOLLYWOOD HOGAN AND THE ROCK

The two most charasmitic wrestlers in history MAKE history.

The first T.L.C. match

The Hardys could fly.  So could Edge and Christian.  And the Dudleys were a blast.  (and 3-d was the coolest combo finishing move ever)  Watching them beat the crap out of each other with EVERYTHING was classic.

LESNAR AND BIG SHOW BREAK THE RING

This was something to see.  Taz’s on air “HOLY SHIT” said it all.

STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN AND GOLDBERG

Stone Cold and and Goldberg share the ring for the first time.

EDDIE GUERRERO WINS BELT

This, coupled with his celebration with Chris Benoit, was one of Wrestlemania’s great moments

STONE COLD AND THE BEER TRUCK

STONE COLD COMES BACK TO LEAD WWF

Watch.  Enjoy.  I know there may have been bigger moments, but these were my favorites.  And thats the bottom line because I said so.

I haven’t seen WWF for quite a while but you have brought back some really cool childhood memories, especially Michaels v Austin and Mankind winning the title on RAW! Thanks!

Bad Religion, Meatloaf, and Bon Jovi are all part of my itunes collection, as well as a friend of mine’s. So that makes at least 3 of us. I definitely love Saint Elmo’s Fire too.

Also, Undertaker’s intro is amazing. I’d also add some classic Bret Hart Stuff…maybe the Screwjob, or the time Fuji threw salt in his face.

Also, if you’re curious, the whole gimmick portion of my website is essentially WWE related (The Yeti, The Shockmaster, etc.) Check it out if you want.

    Go Rock…
I don’t watch wrestling at all, I only know about Hulk Hogan and The Rock… my Spanish teacher had The Rock everywhere… on the walls, behind the doors, on the ceiling… even dolls that talked and said catch phrases and such… =o

I’m going to date myself here…LOL! I have been an avid wrestling fan since around 1970!! I have followed all of the major federations for over 35 years!! You give some awesome examples of events and matches that drastically changed and effected the history of the WWE. Good job! There are so many though! LOL! One trend is obvious. Stone Cold Steve Austin was in the middle of most of them! My favorite wrestling era was the original NWA from the early 80’s through around ‘88. This was when Georgia Wrestling first appeared on TBS. Highlighting that era was Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes! I can go on and on…..great job though!
