Welcome to an epic match. Swiss Roger Federer wins his sixth Wimbledon title against the American Andy Roddick. The match played unbelievable sets: 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14. If Andy Roddick was considered the underdog, it definitely didn’t seem so throughout the match. In fact, the two sets he won were more clear-cut and convincing than the sets won by Federer. However, what it really came down to was the fifth set wherein Federer won 16-14 – a remarkable victory. This match was Roddick’s third finals, all lost to Federer; however, this was the closest he came to snatching the trophy.
Federer is now considered the greatest player, with 15 Grand Slam titles under his belt. He broke the record by another tennis legend, Pete Sampras, who was in the Center Court watching the longest men’s singles finals at the Wimbledon, in terms of games. Roger Federer also won his first French Open this year which made him one of the very few who can brag winning all four grand slam singles.
