The young, unknown Americans are making upsets in this year’s US Open. In the women’s division, Melanie Oudin, the 17 year-old who upset No. 4 seed Dementieva in her previous match also has done the same to 2006 US Open champion Maria Sharapova in a three set: 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. As for Men’s singles, it is the 24 year-old John Isner who halts the winning streak of the top seeds by defeating the No. 5 seeded and fellow American, Andy Roddick 7-6, 6-3, 3-6, 5-7, 7-6 in gripping, noteworthy match. Roddick’s loss marks the first major upset in the Men’s division.

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic on the other hand, are only frustrated, not upset by their last matches. They will advance to the next round. The current world No.1, and five time defending champion, Roger Federer, defeats Lleyton Hewitt of Australia 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4; and Novak Djokovic survives the third round against Jesse Witten, an unseeded American, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, 6-4.
