This article will teach you how to hit a perfectly good forehand in tennis. I will try to explain how to do a simple forehand, but also give the most devastation to the opponent.

First, you need to work on your grip. You have to grip the racket at the bottom of the handle. Many people hold it in the middle or at the top of the handle, which is a grave mistake. Holding it in the middle will not allow you to do a two-hand backhand hit, and at the top it will not allow you to have much power or reach. The bottom allows you to do a two-hand backhand, have a longer reach, and gives you the most power in a hit.

Next, you need to know how to hold your racket. Hold the racket at a 90 degree angle in between your thumb and index finger. Then tilt it 1 or 2 degrees to the left. Or make the racket give an outward rising angle impression.

After your grip and how to hold your racket, you need to know how to do a full motion with a forehand. Start by making a small circular motion and then swing upwards to the position above your shoulder opposite your hand that your using to hit. You should start the small circular motion just above stomach level, and then like an uppercut hit with your arm to the spot above your shoulder opposite the hand your using to hit.

Also, you need to also learn how to aim for the ball to hit it. A little technique I like to use, is using free arm, that does not have the racket, and make a pretend your trying to grasp the ball. This helps you position where to hit the ball, as when you try to hit the ball, you have to turn your body to hit the ball with your hand with the racket because your hand is pretending to grasp the ball. An example of this would be (I’m right handed: I pretend to grasp the ball with my left hand. As I do my forehand motion, I move my body and keep my left hand at the same level as it was when it tried to grasp the ball. Moving my body, and hitting the ball with my right arm is guided by my left arm. The body has a tendency to keep the hands near the same level. What this does is moving my body and guiding my right hand with my left hand helps me position where the ball will be.)

There are advanced techniques towards forehands such as doing spins, and dropshots. However, the way this guide was made already incorporates the top spin, which is the ball spinning forward, into doing a forehand. This is the most basic and common spin players use.

Try to have some fun and creativity and practice your forearms!
