Before the biggest NL Central division series of the year, the Milwaukee Brewers were three games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the wild card race for the top spot as of July 27. They were also a game out of first place to the Chicago Cubs, who came to Miller Park July 28-31 in a pivotal matchup against their rivals.
