Hockey players across Canada are returning to the ice in preparation for the upcoming season. Hockey in Canada remains very popular although statistically it ranks second to soccer in total registrations. Over 500,000 youths (< 18) are registered under the Hockey Canada banner. In Quebec 94,000 males and over 6,000 females registered for the 2008-2009 season. Female registrations continue to rise each year. It is also estimated that over two million adults play in non-regulated “garage leagues” across Canada.
