We take touch for granted. Whereas we have always thought that touch merely supports sentiments communicated either verbally or through eye contact or hand gestures, recent research indicates that physical contact actually relays an even wider range of emotions than hand gestures or facial expressions do. It also indicates that touch frequently communicates emotions faster and more accurately than words can.
