Prelims May 15th
Phelps does not disappoint during prelims but he does not really impress anyone either. The 200M Freestyle which is one of Michael Phelps favorite events started out normal but he seemed to be holding back possibly for finals. Nonetheless, he Finished third behind Davis Tarwater and Peter Vanderkaa. He Touched in in prelims in a time of 1:50.46 witch may have been almost a ten second add for phelps but one must not forget that this prelims of a small sponsor meet and not the finals at the Olympics.
Phelps really impressed me in the 100m Butterfly which you know is always not his best race after almost losing his dream of 8 gold medals by .01 of a second I was surprised that he was ready to jump in the water at his first meet since the Olympics and swim that race again. Phelps went out slow like he always does and even though he had the fastest last 50M he still finished 3rd with a time of 53.41 less than three seconds off his best time. Nevertheless he was still out touched by Tyler McGill and Corney Swanepoe. Lets see if we can see gold out of Phelps in finals.
Finals May 15th
Michael Phelps has certainly has not lost his touch he has redefined the 200m freestyle tonight by finishing the last about five yard of his race with, Straight Arms? This odd technique is actually the thing that helped Phelps win the event in a time of 1:46.02 he blew the field away and set a new Meet Record. This record will result in a $300 payment to Michael Phelps which is not a lot for a man who makes millions in sponsors but it is still going to be paid to him. I am hoping to see more of his amazing straight armed stroke tomorrow in the 50m Freestyle.
Michael Phelps did an amazing job in the 100m Butterfly for someone who usually is bad at sprinting you can tell that he has been trying to change that and he did. After the first 50M Phelps was in a strong 4th which is no unusual for him but then he didn’t even wait for the last 15 meters of a race to take the lead like h usually does as soon as he pushed off that wall he did his famous underwater kick and immediately took the lead. He won the event by over a second and he will also be paid another $300 for breaking a Meet Record.
Other Highlights of Finals:
- Dagny Knutson wins the 200m Freestyle and 400m IM
- Christine Magnu set a new meet record in the 100m Butterfly
