Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson Recorded a New Personal Best
Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson recorded a new personal best of 1:06.79 to advance to the finals of the 100m breast stroke following a swim off with Canadian Tera Van Beilen.

The swim-off became necessary because Atkinson had tied with Van Beilen for fourth place in semi-final one, which also meant a tie for the eighth position in the finals. Photographer Ricardo Makyn has been tracking Atkinson since her practice session at the Aquatic Centre yesterday.




Atkinson clocked 1:06.79 in the swim-off with the Canadian to advance to the 100m breast stroke finals scheduled for tomorrow.
The swim-off became necessary because Atkinson had tied with Van Beilen for fourth place in semi-final one,
which also meant a tie for the eighth position in the finals.

Alia Atkinson has set a new national record of 1:07.39 to win Heat 3 in the 100m breaststroke at the 2012 London Olympics.
Alia will swim from lane eight for the finals scheduled for tomorrow.
