Ways to Keep Your Jogging Interesting

One of the complains I normally hear about jogging is that it is a boring sport. Here are some suggestions on how to keep it interesting.

One of the complaints I have about jogging is that it is a boring sports.  Here are some suggestions on how to keep it interesting.

Run in a group
Get a group of friends to jog with you.  With a group of friends you can talk and laugh while jogging but to do this you will need to run at a lower speed, slow enough that you will be able to talk comfortably.  This is sometimes challenging because you need to select a time that is convenient for everyone and also select friends that run at more or less the same pace.

Mind games

What if you don’t have friends who share your interest in jogging?  You can play some mind games.  Here are some suggestions – works best if you are jogging in a place with other joggers:

  1. Find two to three other joggers who are running about your pace and run behind them.  Pretend that you are the president or some VIP and the joggers in front of you are the Secret Service Agents assigned to protect you.
  2. Zig Zag through a maze of joggers.  Pretend you are in a Grand Prix and you are overtaking other drivers.
  3. Pretend you are rehearsing for the sequel to Forest Gump or you are one of the extras in the Forest Gump.
  4. Pretend you are in the Olympics and you are one of the forerunners with the torch – carry something of the same shape for the effect.
  5. Pretend that you are an astronaut in training.
  6. Pretend you are in a holo deck in one of those sci fi movies and are doing some training.

Others

Enjoy the rush from the endorphin that comes with the run.
If you join a race in some new place you have not been before, bring a camera, slow down, enjoy the scene and take some pictures.  In fact some of these races gives you special privileges that you may not get otherwise:

Like have the Penang Bridge closed for hours so that you can take photos.
Police stopping the traffic as you go by.
Roads void of traffic which will never happen during normal times.
Free Drinks and snacks or even power gel.

    I don’t jog but I do do a lot of walking and these suggestions will work find for walking, too.

    I do a lot of walking too. It is so boring on the treadmill. I try to improvise stories or poetry while I walk. I get outside to walk whenever I can and that’s lots more fun.

    These are great tips. I especially like the idea of jogging with other people. That way you will have someone there with you.
