Usain Bolt

Today I will be presenting Usain Bolt (AKA “Lightning Bolt”) who is a Jamaican sprinter and a big inspiration to a lot of athletes. Usain Bolt was born on the 21st of August 1986 in Trelawny, Jamaica. He grew up with his parents Jennifer and Wellesley Bolt, his brother Sadeeki and his sister Sherine. As a kid Usain Bolt enjoyed playing cricket and football but later on his coach introduced him into the world of track and field. At age twelve Bolt was the schools fastest over 100 meter runner. Bolt’s coaches were called Dwayne Barret and Pablo McNeil. Pablo McNeil was a former 100 meter Olympic athlete. Later Pablo McNeil became Bolts primary coach. Pablo was frustrated about Usain’s discipline to his training. At age 15 Bolt was 196 cms tall and had won a silver medal in the 200 metre run in the annual high-school championships with a time of 22.04 seconds.

In 2001 he attended the Carifta Games, which is an annual junior athletics competition. During this event he managed to win two silver medals and he beat his own personal score on the 400 metre run with a time of 48.28 seconds. Later that year he took place in the World Youth Championships. Bolt failed to qualify for the finals, but he set a new personal best for the 200 meter run. (21.73) Usain Bolt still didn’t take the sport seriously. During the Carifta Trials Bolt hid in the back of a van while he was supposed to get ready for a 200 metre run. The police detained him for his practical joke and the local community blamed Pablo for it.  P. J. Patterson who was once a Prime minister scouted Bolts talent. He moved Bolt to the Jamaican Amateur Athletic Association.

After winning the 200 metre race in 2002 World Junior Championship Bolt signed a sponsorship agreement with Puma. Usain Bolt became professional in 2004 and he became the first junior sprinter to run the 200 metre run in under 20 seconds. Unfortunately Bolt got injured and broke his chances of competing in the 2004 World Junior Championships.

Now 5 years later Usain Bolt is 23 years old, he is 197 cms tall, he weighs 93.89 kg, and he lives in Kingston, Jamaica. He has beaten several world and Olympic records. His two most recent records were set in Berlin. On the 16th of August 2009 he ran 100 metres in just 9.58 seconds. Four days later he ran 200 metres in 19.19 seconds.

Usain Bolt has an interest in dancing and is a relaxed person. He has a girlfriend called Mizicann Evans which he met at age 13.

I chose to present Usain Bolt because he is an interesting person being an outstanding athlete, an entertainer and a very relaxed person. He has also inspired people of all age to start track and field.
