The Women’s Lingerie Football League

There have been new football leagues that have come and gone over the years, but none quite like the new league that has recently popped up. The Lingerie Football League is an all-women’s league that has just started and unlike previous football leagues, it is not a direct competition to the NFL. Scantily clad women play football to the growing amusement of many men. The league is taking this brand of football seriously and its popularity is on the rise.

The Lingerie Football League started in 2009 with 10 teams based in cities across the United States. The league has expanded in 2011 and now has 12 teams including one in Toronto, Canada. The field is 30 yards wide by 50 yards long with each team having 7 players on the field. The game is divided into 2 17-minute halves and a sudden death overtime period if necessary. One of the unique rules of the league is that it requires a team to have 2 running plays and 2 passing plays per every 4 downs. There is also no punting and no field goals. A team’s ultimate goal is scoring a touchdown. Players wear halter top style uniforms with shoulder pads and helmets that resemble the ones in the NHL.

The teams only play 4 games in a season with each team playing only once per month. The 2011/2012 started in August 2011 and will wrap up in January 2012. Tickets can range from $10.00 in the upper levels to almost $100 for field level.

The popularity of the Lingerie Football League has been growing and the league plans future growth in 2012 with new teams in Australia and Europe. The league has been met with staunch criticism with detractors saying that it degrades women and displays them as nothing more than sex objects. Most men will agree that this is the ultimate fantasy league.
