The Who: Live At The SuperBowl

The Who, the raucous pioneers of on-stage instrument destruction, will play the half-time show of Super Bowl XLIV at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Florida on February 7, 2010.
The Who is comprised of Roger Daltrey and Peter Townsend of the original group fronting the rest of the band, which now includes Simon Townsend on second guitar and backing vocals, Pino Palladino on bass guitar, Zak Starkey on drums and percussion, and John “Rabbit” Bundrick on keyboards and backup vocals.
Simon Townsend is Peter Townsend’s brother and is taking up the slack on lead guitar, as Peter Townsend has hearing issues from, what else? Playing LOUD!
Zak Starkey is the son of Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey), world famous drummer previously of The Beatles, and the godson of Keith Moon, the original drummer for The Who.
For those not familiar with The Who, The Who was the band that blew The Beatles and The Rolling Stones off stage with their dynamic Hard Rock sound. The Beatles were naughty boys. The Rolling Stones were bad boys. The Who were in your face. These are the only three bands called contenders for “The Greatest Rock Band of All Time” at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, at Cleveland, Ohio.
The Who invented Rock Opera and was the first band to use synthesizers. They introduced such innovations as walls of speakers, which made them the loudest band at the time, and their signature stunt, which was destroying music equipment live on stage.
Roger Daltry is still a dynamic singer with limitless energy and staying power. His scream in the song “We Won’t Get Fooled Again” is universally acclaimed to be the greatest scream in rock and roll music of all time.
Peter Townshend practically invented power chords, grunge, hammer-ons, what else?
These guys are no posers, believe me.
Half-time promises to be extra nice this Super Bowl.
