The End of Espn as We Know It

Even our sports?

Comments (20)|17 Liked It

ESPN has always been something of a Switzerland for those of us who are sports fans.  Nearly every media outlet in America seems to have its own agenda; ESPN is the network that simply shuts up about everything else and gives us our sports.  While the rest of the media is slowly eaten up by big brother, ESPN has been a beacon;  giving us our sports news without the beurocracy and control of the higher ups.  Until now.

Tony Kornheiser, a commentator for the network and regular on Pardon The Interruption, was suspended for comments he made about fellow sportscaster Hannah Storm.   Tony Kornheiser said she was wearing a “horrifying, horrifying outfit and a very, very tight shirt.”  He went on to say  “She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body,” he added. “I know she’s very good, and I’m not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won’t … but Hannah Storm … come on now! Stop! What are you doing? … She’s what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point.”

For the record, Tony Kornheiser is absolutely correct.  Has ESPN now been endocrinated into the media driven cult of big brother?  Journalism was once about truth, not spoon fed sound bytes such as the ones MSNBC and Fox News force down our throats day after day.  ESPN was our oasis, and now it would appear that we are losing even that.

It isn’t as if he launched a personal attack on her; he criticized, in his usual sarcastic manner, her wardrobe.  Have we truly sunk so deeply into the political correctness quagemire that even our sports are being taken now?

I guess it’s time to start watching ESPN with the volume off now.  At least we still have the internet, right?

Much better than your typical articles where you make the entire thing up just to get page views.

“Endoctrinated?” Please. Did you miss class the day they talked about editing your work?

I would take your comments on journalism seriously if you learned to spell “indoctrinated”.

Do you know anything about rhythm and flow of writing an article? How about tenses? You know when you are talking about stuff ‘until now’, you use past tense. ESPN was a beacon, not ‘is a beacon’.

Your articles are pure garbage. You can NOT write.

Journalism was once about truth, not spoon fed sound bytes such as the ones MSNBC and Fox News force down our throats day after day.

I swear I laughed out loud at the irony of this. You are the one to point fingers? Ask for TRUTH? You are a certified LIAR. Would you mind posting a link to your “UF sanctions imminent” story? I want to laugh at your lies again.

Please stop spamming other sites to get page views. Pathetic story line, pathetic writing skills and zero credibility.

Nothing wrong with plaid mini-skirts and red go-go boots worn by a fifty year old woman….haha I think that Tony was just having a little fun like he does every day on PTI. People take stuff way too serious these days, and even so, i thought her outfit looked pretty ridiculas myself. Nice write my friend.

ESPN died in my opinion when they caved to the nfl and canceled Playmakers. That was a truly great television drama.

I don’t know why there are so many haters up in here. Your writing style is good, and you write like any regular newspaper columnist.

And this article about Kornheiser acting like an a**hole is true. ESPN used to be all about “..our sports”. Now it’s just a bunch of fags talking crap on national TV.
