Badminton is a type of racket sport which is played by billions of people in the world. The following are among the best badminton players in the history of the sport:

Rudy Hartono

Rudy Hartono was an Indonesian badminton player who won the World Championship in 1980, He outstandingly won prestigious All-England Championship title 8 times, doing it seven times in a row (1968–1974).

 

Misbun Sidek

Misbun Sidek was a Malaysian badminton player who won the gold medal in badminton for men singles during the 1981 SEA Games in Manila.

He is now a respectable coach of world-class Malaysian players like Lee Chong Wei and Wong Mew Choo.

Liem Swie King

Liem Swie King was an Indonesian badminton player best known for his aggressive play and the ferocity of his smash.

He won All England men singles championship three times (1978, 1979 and 1981). He was a runner-up in World Championships in 1980 and 1983.

Morten Frost Hansen

Morten Frost Hansen or Morten Frost of Denmark was in the top three of the world rankings for a period of twelve years.

Frost dominated at the much coveted All England Open Badminton Championships. He won that tournament in 1982, 1984, 1986, and 1987.

Zhao Jian Hua

Zhao Jian Hua of China was a player who had speed and power as his best qualities.

At the 1987 IBF World Championships, he won the bronze medal. He’s won the All England singles title twice (in 1985 and 1990). He has also won the single’s title at the Asian Games twice (in 1986 and 1990). He became a world champ in 1991 after winning the gold medal at the IBF World Championship.

Peter Gade Christensen

Peter Gade Christensen of Denmark topped the world rankings from 1998 to 2001. His 16 Grand-Prix titles achievement made him one of the successful badminton player of all time. He won All England singles title in 1999.

He is known for his smooth footwork, fast attacks, deceptive shots and constant pressure.

 

Taufik Hidayat

Taufik Hidayat is an Indonesian player who became an Olympic champion in 2004 and world champion in 2005. He achieved a gold medal in 2006 Asian Games individual event. He won Indonesian Open six times (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006).

His famous quality is his backhand smash.

Lin Dan

Lin Dan of China won the men’s singles gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He has won three singles world championship titles having done so consecutively in 2006, 2007 and 2009

He who is a left-handed badminton player, has the ability to attack with fast smashes at steep angles. His quick movements around the court with powerful straight and cross court jump smashes frequently give his opponents trouble. Lin Dan is now developing into a more complete player when he occasionally uses deceiving wrist movements and employs a wider variety of shots.

Lee Chong Wei

Lee Chong Wei is a Malaysian badminton player who won nine Super Series titles and a bronze medal at the BWF World Championships in 2005. In 2008, he won the silver medal in the Olympic Games. This year (2009) he grabbed his fifth Malaysia Open title.

Lee, who is coached by Misbun Sidek, combines fast reaction times with very quick movements towards attacking shots making him well-known for his extraordinary defensive play. His crosscourt smash is often a winning shot. His fitness due to his disciplined training program always make him last even the longest of badminton matches without appearing to get tired, which works to his advantage tactically by wearing down his less fit opponents with clear shots.

    Sorry to correct this fantastic site with the best players ever.
    The best men’s single player ever, must be Erland Kops from Denmark.
    When he met a danish player, he had to fight to win.
    A lot a asian players have had walk overs whenplaying against fellow countrymen
