Way back in the annals of ‘86, the 26 of October to be precise, atPoin Walter Reserve was once again the scene of the historic pilgrimage to the site of the ancient ritual of the Point Walter Half Marathon. This annual event, which always attracts a good field of masochists hell benton running each other into the ground whilst under threat from swooping magpies, a hot sun and the temptation of bailing out as they pass through the start/finish area with still a further 6km to go along the open road of Burke Drive. And to add spice this year, the traffic was heavier than usual at Fremantle Jetty turnaround point becouse of theAmerica’s Cup races.
For those not wanting to complete the full half marathon course, a hasty 9km course was also arranged along a similar route and proved quite popular . As in previous years it turned out to be a lovely day from the officials point of view, but just a touch warm for those wanting goodtimes. But ,with plenty of water at the tables and marshalls along the course everyone finished in a happy mood and many stayed to enjoy the delights of Point Walter Reserve and the Swan River Foreshore and Beach.
I hope you all like this story. Let me know what you think of it.
