Nadia Comaneci was the first ever female gymnastics competitor to be awarded a perfect 10 at the 1976 Olympic Games, this was competing on the uneven bars.
Before the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, no gymnast had ever been awarded a perfect score of 10.00 from the Judges present, the scoreboard was only equipped to hold and show three digits.
So in this event, the score that showed on the scoreboard was 1.00, so after a brief moment of complete confusion, everyone present burst out in rounds of applause.
Everyone soon got used to the look of 1.00 appearing on the scoreboard, as she achieved this no less then six more times at the same Games.
Being 14 at the time, Nadia Comaneci’s feats may never be broken as the youngest all round Champion ever, as the youngest age for someone to enter now is 16 years of age.
Her Coach was accused because the methods used were deemed too strict, but Nadia Comaneci produced brilliance and earned five medals, including three Gold medals at those Olympic Games.
There are a total of thirteen gymnasts that have won more medals than Nadia Comaneci, whose tally of nine medals in 1976 and 1980 is only half won by Russian Larisa Latynina, but Nadia Comaneci certainly left a lasting impression on the world of gymnastics.

Oh how I remember. Only thing, I didn’t know this happened almost 40 years ago. that theme song they made for her. She was everywhere and deservingly so. Time flies. Great article.
Chris, Nadia set the standard which all gymnasts and judges need to keep in mind.
