Presently W.A. ’s biggest and fastest 10 kilometre fun run , this event ,it is hoped will for the first time in many years in W.A. ,see a sub 30 minutes winning time. The race record is held by Graham Clews (30.24 in 1981) on the old 10km course. Since the change of direction in 1984, Ray Boyd (30.28 in 1984) and Stephen Spiers (30.57 in 1985) have been winners. With Ray’s great improvement during 1985 (particularly 29.30 for the first 10km in the Royal Life Half Marathon series final in Melbourne last year) and Stephen’s 30.06 in Canberra recently, the race this year should be close. With the assistance of T.A.A. , Stephen Spiers will be returning to Perth for the “Bridges” run to defend his 1985 win. Coach Pat Clohessy expects Stephen to be in top form for this event following his experience in the World Junior Cross-Country Championship in March. Negotiations are currently underway to bring one or two top Eastern States runners to Perth to compete in the event. It is hopedough these invitations, 10km runners in Perth will have a chance to compete at a higher level than normally available in this state.

To add incentive for local athletes to compete, any male athletes finishing in less than 32 minutes and female athletes finishing in less than 37 minutes will be eligible for a draw prize of a trip to the Sun Adidas Super Run in Melbourne on September 7th. To clear up any potential misunderstanding , only W.A. Residents at the time of the event are eligible for this prize ( this excludes therefore ,any runner brought to Perth for the event . In addition, a second similar draw prixe is available for all finishers in under 2 hours.

I hope you all like this story and let me know what you think of it.
