She clasps her hands on the wheels. Chantal was ready. Fans stood in the stands of the 2008 Beijing Paralympics Games eagerly cheering for this woman. She bent down, ready to face any competitor that was going to try challenge her stamina. BANG! The gunshot rang, asshe sped down the track, continuing to swerve at every sharp turn. She knew today was the day for victory. As a Para Olympian, Chantal was out to prove that Canadians live in a country of Freedom, Power, and Hope.

When the race was over, the fans roared in delight! She did it! Crowds cheered at the victory of her race. Chantal had just won her fourteenth gold medal. Not only did she become a hero, but Chantal became a hope for others. Chantal Petitclerc is a hero, a Canadian Hero.

Chantal Petitclerc is the most inspiring hero in the year of 2008. Not only did she prove to be a great medalist in the 2008 Paralympics, but she showed that she had the faith, courage and the determination to be a great medalist. Chantal continued to work hard in racing, even though she lost the use of her legs in an accident more than 15 years ago. Although she knew she was going to be disabled the rest of her life, she continued to push forward and continued to work hard on her racing.

Chantal worked extremely hard to become the athlete she is today. I believe her courage, willpower, and perseverance, helped her to achieve Paralympics status! She is a world class Canadian hero, a hero of determination, hope and freedom and that is why Chantal Petitclerc is the top Canadian Hero of 2008.
