After a long awaited meeting. The IOC (International Olympic Commitee) has announced that the 2016 Summer Olympic Game will be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. This will be the first time that the continent of South America will hold the Olympic Games. On October 2nd, members of the IOC met in Copenhagen, Denmark to vote on the 4 candidate cities. Among the cities was Rio De Janeiro, Chicago, Madrid, and Tokyo. Tokyo had the highest rating of the initial evaluation back in 2007 and therefore was the favorite to be elected as the host city for the 2016 Games. Chicago had powerful supporters in Copenhagen on October 2nd including the US President Barack Obama, and his wife Michelle, & Oprah Winfrey. It was a shock when Chicago who was also a favorite to win was eliminated in the first round. Next, Tokyo was given the axe, which came as another shocker. Madrid and Rio De Janeiro were the finalists and after a fateful talk, the IOC members voted 66 to 32 to have Rio host the 2016 Olympics. Now all we must do is wait to see the Olympics come to Rio in August of 2016. 7 Years to go?
