Initially at the start of the 2010-2011 season, not a lot of critics expected great results from a very young Arsenal side which lacked experience. But as the season progressed, the Gunners started proving their mettle in all the competitions they were participating in. With the new signing Koscelney adjusting in really well, Jack Wilshere maturing really quickly and adjusting into the first team and Van Persie returning from injury and fulfilling the expectations of all the Arsenal faithful, everything seemed to be on track for the Gunners. They reached the carling cup final, where they were to play against Birmingham. In the FA cup they have Layton Orient to play in the 5th round. In the premier league they were just 4 points behind the leaders Man Utd, while in the Champions League round of 16 they were to play against Barcelona, which was surely going to be tough but the level of football in the match would be matchless.

They drew their FA cup match with Layton Orient with a score of 1-1. So they have to play a game more now. In the Champions League, they defeated Barcelona with a 2-1 score. The match lived up to its hype and was a treat to watch. With Barcelona drawing the first blood with David Villa, Arsenal had to play catch up and scored 2 goals toward the end of the match, thanks to Van Persie and Arshavin. Then came the Carling Cup Final. Birmingham were the first to score, with the towering Zigic scoring the opener. Arsenal came back through Van Persie but he injured himself in the process of scoring the goal. In the dying moments of the game, there was a mix up between Wojciech Szczesny the young Polish keeper and Laurent Koscielny which resulted in a chance for Obefami Martins and he grasped the opportunity with both hands scoring the winning goal. The final score was 2-1. So Arsenal’s six year trophy drought continues. Another thing going against Arsenal was Van Persie’s injury which rules him out of the second leg clash with Barcelona on 8th March. In the premier league Arsenal overcame Stoke in their last match with a score of 1-0 while Man Utd the league leaders lost to Chelsea 2-1 on 1st March in their match at Stamford Bridge. So the gap between Arsenal and Man Utd has been reduced to just 1 point. But with injuries to Fabregas, Walcott and Van Persie, and a busy schedule ahead of them, Arsenal should make sure they don’t lose a single point in the premier league and the Champions league clash with Barcelona will be a real test of their credentials with some of their key players missing.

So Arsenal have got to gear up and play some really good football.
