Soccer is one of the most popular sports in all Europe and of course Turkey. In Turkey and many European countries we don’t use “soccer” word for this field of sport. We prefer to use “football” word for the game which Americans call football. Every year 4 or 5 Turkish team plays for Turkey in European football arena. There are two important soccer tournament in Europe. Those are known as European Champions League and Uefa Cup. The most qualified teams of all European countries participate in Champions League and less qualified but good teams participate in Uefa Cup. At the end of the season, the winners of Champions League and Uefa Cup play to win European Super Cup. This article is about the most popular Turkish football teams.Those teams participate in European cups for more than 50 years. There are three major team of Turkey, Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
Besiktas
Besiktas is one of the professional sport clubs of Istanbul. It was founded in 1903. It has sport teams in many branches of sport such as basketball, volleyball and handball. Besiktas plays its matches in Istanbul Inonu stadium. Besiktas has an important place in Turkish sport since it is the first Turkish sport team.
Besiktas is nicknamed as “Black Eagles” by the fans. Besiktas took this nickname in 1941 after winning a match 6-0. Besiktas is famous with supporter group known as “Carsi” .Carsi is originally a Turkish word.
This supporter group is also the holder group of Guinness World Records.
Some honours of Besiktas football club can be listed as:
- The first and unique undefeated champion of Turkish league.
- The only team which has the Turkish flag on its emblem.
- Most games won in row
- Longest streak of undefeated games
Galatasaray
Galatasaray is a sport club based in Istanbul. It has many sport branches but the most popular is football team. Galatasaray was founded in 1905 and it is the second sport club of Turkey after Besiktas. Galatasaray plays its matches in Ali Sami Yen stadium. However, Galatasaray played some matches in European Champions League in Istanbul Ataturk Stadium. It is the best Turkish team in European football arena.Galatasaray is the winner of Uefa cup in 2000. Galatasaray has football schools in almost every city of Turkey.
Galatasaray is nicknamed as “Cimbom” by the fans.

Fenerbahce
Fenerbahce is a sport club based in the Anatolian part of Istanbul. Fenerbahce was founded in 1907 and it is the third Turkish sport club. Fenerbahce plays its matches in Kadikoy Sukru Saracoglu Stadium which is one of the best stadiums of all Europe. The capacity of this stadium is more than 50000.Fenerbahce is playing in European Champions League in this season. Fenerbahce is famous with transferred players. Fenerbahce football club has tranferred many famous players in last years. Ariel Ortega, Nicolas Anelka, Roberto Carlos, Diego Lugano are only some of them.
Fenerbahce is nicknamed as “Canaries”

besiktas is not the only team which has the Turkish flag on its emblem!!!! What a wrong information…. Bursaspor also has the Turkish flag on its emblem.

There are much more information to be learnt about the Galatasaray. I am not agree about the transfer because George Hagi, Popesco, Frank De Boer, Taffarel, Milan Baros, Harry Kewell, Lincoln played for Galatasaray.
