Have you ever played soccer? How about center, right, or left midfielder? You have to play offensively and defensively.

There are eleven players on an official team. Three to five of them can play in midfield positions. There are three different types of midfielders. They are the center, left, and right midfielders. They are all positioned between the defenders and the forwards. The forwards are the people in the front of the midfielders; the midfielders have to get the ball to the forwards. The defenders are the people who get the ball to the midfielders and midfielders try to protect the ball from getting to them. Sometimes, there can be two of one type of midfielder (e.g. two center midfielders).

Center midfielders (there are always one or two) are divided into attacking and defending center midfielders. They both attack and both defend, but they are supposed to try harder to attack (if you are an attacking midfielder) or defend (if you are a defending midfielder). A defending center midfielder is supposed to take the ball away from the other team and pass it to an open player. Attackers are supposed to try to score goals or pass the ball to people who can. A common job for them is to stop or slow down other players before the get to the defense.

Side midfielders (left and right) support the strikers (center forwards). Strikers’ jobs are to score and get the ball up the field. A side midfielder is supposed to cross the ball (get it to someone in the middle of the field who is in the position to score). If you go wide, (there are almost always less people there) you usually have more options and more time. Going wide means going to open space on either the left or right side of the field.

A midfielder of any type has many jobs that he/she can do. Therefore, a midfielder rarely can afford to rest while the game is going on. Since there are so many things you can be doing at any time, you need a lot of stamina (to be alert and ready throughout the game).

Midfielders can score, defend, pass, dribble, or just try to keep the ball away from opponents (buy time). It is important during a game that you have good midfielders.

    I am now playing on a select under 11 team. I am playing middle midfielder. My coach said I look confused out there. Says I am running in circles and not aggressive enough. What are my boundaries? How can I play this position successfully?

    Well Im into soccer and we play 3F, 4M, 3D and obviously 1GK
    so we use middle to stop everything rarely the ball goes to defence so yeah Mids pass ball to front or even goal themselves, but the point of a midfield is to run all field know what im saying, midfields are attackers and defenders wich a team uses to keep the ball on their hands and win the game, so yeah midfielders point is to get the ball for the team no matter what, and a tip, whenever you feel in pressure just throw ball outside or blow it away to newhere, that helps, just mark the opponents and keep the ball on your team’s hand, be agressive, soccer is agressive game, push people to get the ball, but dont be too agressive, we dont want fights so yeah keep up the good work guys, GOOD LUCK!

    Tips for playing central midfield if you are still looking on here;

    Talk to your wingers on both sides before the game kicks off so you can tell them to run down the line for the through ball or to come close for the short pass.

    whenever you get the ball on the edge of the box. Hit it. Don’t be scared to have a shot. People may shout at you for taking a chance but as a midfielder you need to take chances.

    Always even when you do not have the ball, look for where your other players are. Know where both winger are and where the strikers are and where they are going to run. So you can pick that pass.

    TALK! TALK! TALK! i think you get the message. Talk to all your team mates around you.

    Give signals are gestures to your teammates that are near you if the short pass is an option. This is in cohesion with the talking

    Get back and defend whenever you need to and cover for the defense if they are out of position.

    And be ready to sprint forward whenever you are defending.

    Be brave, do not be afraid to go up for the header or make that crunching tackle, you will be much more respected by your opponents if you go in for a crunching tackle.

    These should help you if you are still looking on here for tips
