Donetsk – Roy Hodgson hoping Wayne Rooney can display an inspirational performance to take England through to the quarter finals against host Ukraine in their final Group D match next morning.
Manchester United striker is even equated with the legend of Pele. Rooney will re-sod after missing two games early in 2012 because of his red card against Montenegro in qualifying time in October.
“If you look at a few years back, if you take Pele as an example, he can produce his best football when it most needed to bring Brazil win the World Cup,” said Hodgson, as reported by journalist Okezone Fitra Iskandar, Tuesday (06/19/2012).
“We also need such a great thing. Hopefully Rooney could start doing that for us Tuesday night. Then, if we win, who knows? If Rooney can show the best performance, then he can get us moving away “hope Hodgson.
Rooney is expected to replace Andy Carroll and his duet with Danny Welbeck at United. Theo Walcott, who previously feared missing because of a hamstring injury has also been confirmed to perform.
The draw with Ukraine was enough to bring England qualify but win with a great score will lead the Three Lions top Group D. When a group winners, England will face Italy in 24 hours rest for longer than if only a runner-up.
