The Greek champions in football of all time.

1st Period: Before World War Two

The first period of the Greek Football Championship dating a few years before the second World War. Began in 1927 and ended in October 1940, where the World War 2 start. These years were too hard and the movements of each from one city to another was held with great difficulty. For the record mentioning, Arés from Thessaloniki was the first football club that won the first Greek Championship.

Notes: The first period lasted 18 years, but there were only the 11 championships which highlighted 6 times champion Olympiakos, 2 times Aris and AEK and Panathinaikos 1 time.

2nd Period: After World War Two

The second period of the Greek Football Championship start immediately after the end of the World War 2. It was the season 1945 – 1946 and again the football club from Thessaloniki, Aris won the Greek Championship. The difficulties continued and now there are even bigger than in the past years. War left a lot of destruction behind.

Notes: The second period lasted 14 years from the football season 1945-1946 to 1958-1959 and only two of them were not held regularly (football seasons 1949-1950 and 1951-1952). Olympiakos won the championship 9 times, Panathinaikos 2 times and Aris 1 time.

3rd Period: First Division

In 1959 held the first Greek Football Championship with the founding of the First National League which carried out among football clubs from all over Greece and not only from Thessaloniki and Athens. It was a significant move from the Greek State that helped greatly to the development of the football in the country.

4th Period: Professional League

From the football season 1979-1980 and after all championships are professional, football clubs renamed to football companies, sponsors are taking place and generally there is a constant development.

Notes: The 5th football period in Greece lasted 27 years and all championships held regularly. Olympiakos won the trophy 14 times, Panathinaikos 7, AEK 4, P.A.O.K. and Larisa 1 time.

5th Period: Greek Super League

Globalization and the commercialization of the things around the world affected football in Greece by creating new conditions and prospects. From the football season 2005-2006 and after Greek football acquires a new name, “Greek Super League”. Until today, only one championship has completed and we are in (Sunday 9 March 2008) the last half of the second.

2006-07 Olympiacos

Note: Only one championship was held until today (2005-2006) and Olympiakos was the winner.

Performance by Football Club

To conclude this review of the past of football should mention the performance of the Greek football clubs. From the conduct of the first championship (1927-1928) to the most recent (2006-2007) we have a total of 71 championships. Olympiakos won the Greek Championship 35 times, Panathnaikos 19, AEK 11, Aris 3, P.A.O.K. 2 and Larisa 1 time.
