Cristiano Ronaldo’s Arrival to Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, or CR9 (was CR7 in Manchester United) for short, is presented today at Santiago Bernabeu, home for Real Madrid Football Club in Madrid, Spain. Sixty- five thousand fans went to the stadium and about 80,000 are expected to go during the presentation.

Ronaldo was sold by Manchester United to Spain for an incredible 94 million euro, close to 130 million dollars, breaking up Zidane’s record for more expensive sign-up in history.

The exteriors of the stadium present the same aspect as it would be on a game day, a mass of sellers anouncing club ’s scarf, caps and jerseys. Also fans have come with written placards with messages to Cristiano and also to Barcelona.

Cristiano Ronaldo will use the #9, same as other historic players such as Hugo Sanchez and Di Stefano, while the name on the jersey will say “Ronaldo” instead of the used in the past “C. Ronaldo”. The reason is that #7 he likes most is currently in use by Raul, Real Madrid’s captain.

For Florentino Perez, current club’s president, Ronaldo will be the second “galactico” to be presented, only after Kaka; and also the second of the “poker” sign ups of Kaka, Ronaldo, R. Albiol and recently Benzema.
