Champions League Final
On the 27th of May 2009 Rome was the setting for the Champions League Final with 2of the biggest clubs in the world going head to head, Barcelona v Manchester United.

Barcelona 2-0 Manchester United
This Final had the potential to be one of the greatest games of modern times, The teams involved were battling for the best trophy in Europe and to prove which team are probably the best in the world,
The teams lined up in the modern day Colosseum like Gladiators of old Rome and were ready to do 90 minutes of battle, The game started well for United with Christiano Ronaldo having a free kick spilled by the Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes, United looked very much the better team until Samuel Eto scored for Barcelona in their first attempt at attack with 10 minutes gone, After this United seemed to go to pieces and Barcelona settled into the game and started to show their class by keeping the ball and passing leaving united chasing shadows,
The game was finished in the 70th minute when Lionel Messi headed a goal in from a Xavi cross, Barcelona out played Manchester United and deservedly won the game and the best trophy in Europe but i can’t help believing that on another day United could have been the winners and on this occasion they just had an off day.
One of the big questions that has been asked and needed to be answered on the pitch was, Who is the best player in the world – LIONEL MESSI orCHRISTIANO RONALDO? Ronaldo still has a claim for the title and in those first 10 minutes he showed the world how dangerous he can be by shooting from distance and with free kicks, However on the night the clear winner was Messi he rose to the occasion and mesmorised the stadium with his flicks and runs, He then got the goal with a superb header in the second half and i believe was the man of the match and will go on to win the world player of the year award.
