When Josep Guardiola was appointed Barcelona manager at the beginning of the 2008/09 season no one knew that he would lead barca into becoming the first Spanish team to win three competitions in one season. After Barcelona had already won the La Liga and Copa Del  Rey, they went on to defeat English champions Manchester United 2-0 in Rome with goals from Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi. It was then revealed that one of the motivations that the Barcelona squad had was a gladiator video created by Pep Guardiola and shown to them before the start of the match:

After the staggering signings that Real Madrid completed it is no dought that they would now be favourites to win the 2009/2010 UEFA Champions League in their own stadium the Santiago Bernabeu. Although teams such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus, Bayer Munchen and Inter Milan are a list of the tough European teams competing in the Champions League, one team  stands out: FC Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola’s team that won the 2008/09 Champions league was complete with 11 players from the youth system of Barcelona including players such as: Victor Valdez, Xavi Hernandez, Carles Puyol, Lio Messi, Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets. Although Barcelona’s treble-winning squad was already great, Maxwell and Zlatan Imbrahimovic were brought in from Inter Milan with Samuel Eto’o going the other way. The Barcelona squad would now be one of the strongest in Europe. Manager Guardiola even admitted himself stating “99% of the managers in Europe would love to have my [FC Barcelona] squad”. This does prove that Barcelona are as fired up and ready as ever for the new season to make their mark once again as perhaps the world’s greatest team right now.

FC Barcelona maybe along with classic rivals Real Madrid favourites to reach the 2009/2010 Champions League final at the legendary Santiago Bernabeu stadium. An El Classico final would indeed impress the fans of Spanish football and football fans around the world. With the squad depth the Blaugrana have along with their talented stars, promising youngsters, great manager and large fan base, the treble winning Barcelona could be once again the team to watch in the 2009/2010 football season.

Barcelona have a quality side and could win it again, However I feel Real Madrid may be the leading contenders with the new signings they have and the fact that the final will be held at their ground.
