Ronaldo vs Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo Vs Lionel Messi Who is better? This is perhaps a subject of one the most heated discussions on the Internet Bloggers Community and on the tons of Sports and Football Forums. Well, Ronaldo and Messi both have their own pluses and minuses and it is really a question of balancing between their on-ground or off-ground talents and football skills.

Now we will take a brief look into each of their career and beginning, before we actually start comparing them.

C. Ronaldo

Ronaldo was born on the 5th February 1985, on the small island of Madeira, which is owned by the Portuguese. Named after Ronald Reagan, due to his father’s respect for the man, few would have gambled that this child would make it to the very top of the Football tree, especially with Madeira mainly being used for farm-land. He has one brother and two sisters, and it is family whom he deems most important in his life at the moment.

At the tender age of 17, Ronaldo was thrown in at the deep end with his first game against Moreirense. Two goals on his first appearance not only gave him his dream debut, but also endeared him to the fans, who soon learnt to chant for the ball to be passed to him. A goal against title-rivals Boavista also saw him rise to the top of the “Fan’s Favorites” list

He then signed with Barclays Premier Team club Manchester United and stayed there until 2009.

Ronaldo was crowned as both the FIFA World Player of the Year and European Player of the Year in 2008.

Ronaldo scored 26 goals in the 2008/09 season, helping United to another Premiership title, and again reached the final of the Champions League in which they lost to Barcelona.

Ronaldo became the world’s most expensive football player following his move from Manchester United to Real Madrid in July 2009 in a £80 million transfer. He was welcome by 80,000 fans in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium during his official presentation.

L. Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi (born June 24, 1987 in Rosario) is an Argentine football (soccer) player.

Lionel Messi started playing football at a very early age in his hometown’s Newell’s Old Boys. From the age of 11, he suffered from a hormone deficiency and as Lionel’s parents were unable to pay for the treatment in Argentina, they decided to move to Barcelona, Spain.

After winning the 2009 UEFA Super Cup, Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola asserted that Messi was probably the best player he had ever seen.

Messi was named winner of the 2009 Ballon d’Or on 1 December 2009, beating runner-up Cristiano Ronaldo by largest ever margin of 473 to 233.Afterwards, France Football magazine quoted Messi as saying: “I dedicate it to my family. They were always present when I needed them and sometimes felt even stronger emotions than me.”

On 6 April 2010, for the first time in Messi’s career he scored four goals in a single match, netting the lot in a 4–1 home win over Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final second leg. This also saw him overtake Rivaldo as Barcelona’s all time greatest scorer in the competition. On 10 April, Messi scored his 40th goal of the season when he netted the first goal in a 2–0 away win against title-rivals Real Madrid in El Clásico. On 1 May, Messi played his 50th game of the season and scored two goals on a 4–1 away win against Villarreal. Just three days later, on 4 May, Messi scored two goals in another 4–1 win at home against Tenerife. Messi scored his 32nd goal of the La Liga season on 8 May, during an away win against Sevilla, and in the final match against Valladolid, he scored two goals in the second half to tie Ronaldo’s club record of 34 goals in a single league season, set in 1996–97, and to finish four goals behind the all-time record held by Telmo Zarra.

Let’s have a brief comparison between them:

Well when you are running in the category of being the best or one of the best players in the world, you have to be fast. We have seen many world class footballers like, The Real Ronaldo (phenomenon), Zidane, Ronaldinho, Maradona and Pele to be extremely fast on the ground. Same goes for these two players as well; they are both fast. But if we debate on the topic that who is faster we may come to a conclusion that C. Ronaldo may be just a touch faster then Messi. Most of the people would agree with me on this one.

So the Winner is C. Ronaldo, when it comes to speed!

We have seen some incredible dribblers over the last decade in the sports of football; like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo (phenomenon), Zidane and Robinho. These two players have really followed the tradition and have taken dribbling to kind of a next level. C. Ronaldo compels his own dribbling style and have contributed in bringing out some new moves. Messi however gives you a Maradona type dribbling sensation and is more of a complete dribbler then C. Ronaldo. Most of the people would agree with me when I say that Messi is a better dribbler then C. Ronaldo.

The Winner is Messi, when it comes to dribbling!

They both are great scorers, especially when it comes to scoring as being a mid-fielder they have shown some great stats over the last few seasons. Like Messi equalizing Ronaldo’s record of scoring 47 goals in all the competition for Barcelona and C. Ronaldo scoring 34 goals in just 36 matches for Real Madrid (despite being injured for around 12 games) is just incredible. If this was a question asked back in 2009, anybody could have picked C. Ronaldo over Messi but what Messi has done in the last season has just shown, how much he has improved as a scorer and what type of finisher he has become. I would surely go with Messi in this one too but C. Ronaldo comes really close though.

The Winner is Messi, when it comes to scoring!

Passing is the essence of a mid-fielder. Every good mid-fielder in the recent past like Ronaldinho, Zidane, Maradona, Giggs and Xavi have had great passing skills. I won’t say that you could compare either of these two with these great passers when it comes to passing, but they definitely have provided some great dishes to their forwards. I would have to go with C. Ronaldo when it comes to passing but Messi obviously comes pretty close and may beat him in this skill as well in the near future.

The Winner is C. Ronaldo, when it comes to passing!

Well the article says it all but if we have to conclude this argument then I would have to pick Messi over C. Ronaldo since he is better in dribbling and scoring which are better attributes of a football player. C. Ronaldo is again pretty close and if question was asked a year back then I would have picked C. Ronaldo but Messi has shown a great improvement in the last year or so and is looking like the real king right now!

Ronaldo is faster stronger and a better passer for sure. Messi scored more in the season because CR was injured and in dribbling messi has better control because CR tries new moves.
