Snowboarding is a winter sport that began in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.  This sport originated in the United States.  As of 1998 snowboarding is an official winter Olympic sport.

There are many different styles of snowboarding.  The most common style is known as freeriding.   This is the simplest style of snowboarding.  It is when a person boards down any type of slope or terrain.  Free style is another popular style of snowboarding.  Free styling is when a person will use such things as hand rails, half pipes, ramps and other materials to perform aerial tricks.

When snowboarding a person should dress in layers so they can protect themselves from the elements.  The first layer is called the base layer.  This  layer should consist of long underwear and socks made out of a synthetic fabric.  The second layer should be made out of a fabric such as polartec or fleece.  The reason for this layer is insulation.  The third layer should consist of a good jacket and snow pants.  The purpose of this layer is protection from the wind and water.  A person might want to wear a hat as well as gloves or mittens.

Before hitting the slopes on a snowboard a person should always check all  equipment to make sure it is working properly.  A person should be sure to check the bindings on the snowboard.  Always check your boots as well.  When snowboarding in a group all members of the group should set up a designated meeting time and place.
