One of my favorite sports is Snowboard. I do it for six years and I love to do great and many things, from run tracks, half-pipes and I do some tricks.
Usually I go to snow in Easter.
I started to go seven years ago and I already know various locations, Andorra, in Pas de La Casa, Soldeu, El Tarter and Canillo. (Spain), Switzerland and Italy.
Switzerland, where I started to do some tricks and “out of tracks” with virgin snow. Everytime I go I feel a really good sensation that I never felt before. I really like to practices snowboard.
I feel so free and tranquilize. Its pure and soft!
My work describe some important moments about this sport, The Snowboard. There are many discussions about who is the real father of snowboarding. Sherman Poppen is, Dimitrij Milovich, Jake Burton and Tom Sims, all had great importance for the development and growth of the sport.
I just discovered that in 1966, on Christmas Day, the North American engineer Sherman Poppen tried to put two skis together for his daughter play.
Sherman arrested the two skis side by side, placed strips of leather and a piece of wood with the shape of a cross to serve as support for the feet. His wife suggested the name Snurfer, a mixture of snow and surf.
When other children saw Sherman’s daughter, began to ask if its possible to do more snurfers. That was the beginning of the Brunswick Company. This enterprise bought the rights to the engineer and started to commercialize the product. The first contest of snurfer happened in 1968, in Michigan and was only a straight decline.
In 1969 the surfer skier Dimitrij Milovich started to manufacture boards with design inspired by the surfboard. It was when the Winterstick was born. The boards were designed with a width three times thicker for use on the baby snow…
In 1972, Bob Webber managed to patent for its creation: the Skiboard, which had a format more similar to those used today.
Around 1977, Tom Sims and Jake Burton Carpenter created their own company and began to sell models. The contribution of Jeff Grell was also critical: he created the first attachment to their feet.
It true that Brazil doesn’t have snow, but thousands of Brazilians go every year abroad for skiing and snowboarding. And they do it in sand!!!!
The sport is growing rapidly among young people, attracting athletes from skateboarding, surfing and wakeboard. Many skiers migrated to the snowboard, because they found a sport with more action, since it offers a much larger quantity of maneuvers.
In 1995 took place the 1st “Campeonato Brasileiro” on Snowboard Valle Nevado, Chile. Since then, the championship takes place annually. In the winter of 2000 the snow arrived in Sao Paulo, but she did not come from heaven, but the equipment that made for the Big Air, a competition / demonstration at Paccaembu.
