Alaska is a popular tourist destination for people who love nature and want to visit a less crowded state. Alaska is the biggest of all the United States and has many unique features. Most of the tourism is in the summer, but some people travel to Alaska in the winter.
Alaska is an interesting travel destination for a skiing holiday. With load of sunshine in the summer and lots of darkness in the winter, it can be very different than your typical ski resort holiday destination.
Alaska has several different ski resorts such as, Alyeska Resort, Arctic Valley, Eaglecrest, Hilltop, Moose Mountain, Mt Eyak, Arctic Valley Ski Area, and Mt Aurora Skiland.
The ski season in Alaska usually runs from some time in November to the end of April. On occasion, skiing may be extended into May. Alyeska is one of the most popular ski resorts in Alaska, with Eaglecrest a close second.
Alyeska
Alyeska ski resort has a 304 room Hotel and is located about 40 miles from Anchorage. They have over 1,400 acres, with 73 named trails. They have a total of 9 lifts and are mostly geared for an intermediate level skiers as well as experts.
One interesting feature is that the Alyeska resort has the lowest base elevation of any ski resort in the United States (250 feet). The trails are lighted to extend skiing into the evening.

Eaglecrest
Eaglecrest ski resort is located on Douglas Island, about 12 miles from Juneau, Alaska. Eaglecrest is best for skiers with some level of skill. With 640 acres this ski resort features 36 alpine runs and 3 loops (10km) of nordic trails. They have four double lifts and a vertical drop of 1,540 feet. One of the things that makes Eaglecrest enjoyable is that there are seldom large crowds or long lift lines, as compared with ski resorts elsewhere outside of Alaska. This resort has a good focus on family fun and tourism.
Moose Mountain
Moose Mountain ski resort has 35 trails on 200 acres. One interesting feature is that they bus people to the top of the hill in heated buses that have ski racks. The slope faces to the south, thus catching more sun and avoiding the cold winter winds. Moose Mountain is located near Fairbanks, Alaska.
Hilltop
Hilltop ski resort is a great place for youth and beginners. They have two lifts. Hilltop ski resort is located in Anchorage, Alaska. This is primarily a smaller ski resort (only 30 acres) to give youth an opportunity to hit the slopes.
