Maria Sharapova
The tennis princess Maria Sarapova started hitting tennis balls at the very young age of four.She established herself as the third youngest Wimbledon Champion in the year 2004 by defeating two-time defending champion Serena Williams. She emerged as world number one in the year 2005 and was the first Russian player to become the best player in the world.She was also listed as one of the most beautiful fifty people by the People’s magazine in the year 2005.She defeated world number one champion Amelie Mauresmo in the semifinals and world number two Justine Henin in the finals in the US open title in the year 2006. In October 2009 she won the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.This young tennis celebrity is still focused on her career to attain the number one ranking.She has featured many advertisements and in fact looks gorgeous and appealing in her team uniforms.
Mia Hamm
The world’s number one female soccer player who has inevitably proved the world that women can also excel and shine in male dominated sports. In 1996 Atlanta Olympics, she drove the women’s team to win the gold medal. In 1999 she lead the US team to win the women’s world cup.She has in fact out shined and overwhelmed the male sports stars during that period.She has won gold medals, championships, laurels and endorsements that a sports icon could have really dreamt of.
Michelle Kwan
Her amazing talent brought figure skating into the national spotlight. She has been interested in figure skating from the young age of five.She won the Olympic medal in 1998 and 2002 and holds an amazing record of being a five time world champion and a nine time US figure skating champion.No wonder she is rightly considered as the greatest figure skaters of all time. She was admired for her artistic, rhythmic,consistent and expressive display on ice.
Nancy Lopez,
America’s professional golfer has won the first novice golf competition at the age of thirteen.At that young age she had practically no knowledge of golf but still won the game against experienced players.She is the only women who has been named as the Rookie of the year and the Player of the year during one season.She won nine tournaments at a stretch and five in a row.To honor her role in sports she was awarded the Billie Jean King award by the Women’s Sport’s Foundation. She is the first women to get the Frances Ouimet Award for lifelong contribution to the field of golf.
Nadia Comaneci
Romanian gymnast who holds the record for a perfect score of 10 in the Olympic gymnastic event.She amazed the world by her stunning performance in 1976 Montreal Olympics.She is the winner of three Olympic gold medals in the 1976 Summer Olympics and two gold medals at the 1980 Summer Olympics.
Tracy Caulkins
The first American to set a record and win an American title for all four swimming strokes.Her versatility and ability in all four strokes was rather amazing and astounding.She has won three gold medals,48 national championships and five world records. In 1984 the US Olympic committee crowned her as the “Female athlete of the year”
