Starting skateboarding is serious, you must be serious about it and you have to be able to sacrifice a lot of your time. You either need loads of time or money, even better; both. So if you have never tried skating it would be best to try a friends board or something, if you like the feel of it you should maybe get a wal mart board or a (not so good) board with no brand. You can even get used ones theyre usually cheap… however if you wanna get straight to it buy a good branded board and start straight away.
Remember when buying a board ask the shopkeeper to recommend something or if you can try stand on this board, if it feels right then you should get it and start skateboarding.
