Skateboarding 3 – The Kickflip
The kickflip is a must-know for any skater who wants to have any street cred. If you dont know what a kickflip is then… then… then you suck, but ill tell you any way, its like an ollie except a lot harder since the board does a full flip (in lenth) for more detail search it on youtube… Any way to do this trick you must know the basics of skating (balance, movement, popping and an ollie) then you can move onto the kickflip.

The Kickflip
The kickflip was invented in 1983 by Rodney Mullen, He originally named the trick the “magic flip” but that sounded kind of… “wierd” … so he later renamed it, and instead called it the kickflip because of the way you execute it, (well you dont actually kick it) The kickflip is one of the basic tricks but it can still takes weeks or even months to learn. Its important because it is needed to learn other tricks and variations of this one like the Double kickflip, The triple kickflip, quadflip, Varial kickflip, 360 flip, 540 flip, 720 doubleflip, kickflip 180, hardflip, motherflip and so on…
Instructions
- Your stance must bee similair to an ollie but you front foot must be placed in a 45 degree angle outward.
- Bend down low so you can jump higher, then powerfully pop the tail into the ground, and start jumping.
- As you are extending your legs you have to flick the board with your front foot to make it spin, the faster you flick the faster the board will spin, its all about you ankle.
- Make sure you stay directly over the board and get your feet and legs out of the way to let it spin.
- Once you see the griptape side coming around get ready to catch the board bring down your feet and catch the board. Usually the back foot catches it first.
- Now land with your feet as close to the bolts as possible and bend your knees to soften the impact.
- Roll away clean, then do another one.
Tips
- no skater in the world will or has ever landed a kickflip on his/her first time so keep practicing and dont give up.
- wear safety equipment to bring down the chances of injury.
- start by learning the kickflip stationary and then get moving.
