Tubbataha Reef is considered as the best dive site in the Philippines and probably the best in the world. It is an island of coral reef located in the Sulu Sea of the Philippines. It is nominated at the New 7 Wonders of Nature and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are over 1000 species that populate the reef; many of which are already regarded as endangered.
According to the official website of the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, the marine park is a habitat to no less than:
- 573 species of fish
- 379 species of corals (about half of all coral species in the world)
- 11 species of sharks
- 12 species of dolphins & whales
- Nesting Hawksbill & Green sea turtles
- Over 100 species of birds
The park comprises almost 10,000 hectares of coral reef, resting at the center of the Coral Triangle – which is also considered the centre of global marine biodiversity.

The reef is composed of two coral atolls – the North and the South Atoll. The North Atoll is larger than the latter measuring 16 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide. The South Atoll on the other hand, measures 5 kilometers in height and 3 kilometers in width.
Vibrant corals wrap more than two-thirds of the spot and the waters around the reef are sanctuary for various marine lives. It seems that the diverse ecosystem of this haven rivals that of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Tubbataha is also a bird sanctuary. A lighthouse islet located in the South Atoll supports a huge number of seabirds which nest there. There are also thousands of different kinds of birds that rest in the island during their yearly migrations.

Tubbataha is truly a great spot for diving and also a great place to appreciate nature.

I love the ocean .
Wonderful article
Amazing undersea .
great look at the dive site. I am terrified of the ocean. I will not even get in past my ankles. I know that I have a greater chance of being in a car accident than ate by a shark…..but still!
I simply love diving in the sea.
