Running is It’s Own Reward
My tale as a beginning cross country runner.

As I stepped on to the track to run my required 2 laps for physical education a few months ago, the only thing on my mind was “Oh no.. more running.” Today, it’s not as bad. I can now run about 20 laps without stopping.
My family and friends are now wondering how I did it. My answer: Cross Country.

Cross country is a special type of running. Instead of running on a flat track, you run a rocky, usually hill and mountainous trail. My problem is not my breathing. I can breath very well when running. No, my problem is my legs. My muscles aren’t as strong, so they start to pain within 2 km of running. This is a pain, because in races, I have to run an average of 5 to 10 kilometers.
My tip? Run through the pain until a certain point. When you start to feel a very sharp pain, start walking. Don’t stop – it makes it harder to start again.

Running is it’s own reward. I never won a race, but I can now run farther and faster, and I am now happy with myself. I think that’s what sports are supposed to do. It’s not about winning or losing (unless you are making million a year by playing), it’s all about self improvement. The better you get, the happier you are and the more you can do. The good cycle of running is that it won’t ever stop. You’ll use the skill everyday of your life, hopefully.
If I can do it, so can you. Grab your shoes and take a small jog everyday. You’ll be amazed at what it can do for you.
