 Abel Kirui of Kenya defended his men’s marathon title at the planet championships on Sunday in a very time of 2:07:38.

The two9-year-old raced home 2 minutes twenty eight seconds previous compatriot Vincent Kipruto, the most important winning margin at a world championships, whereas Ethiopian Feyisa Lilesa was third.

Kirui currently has the 2 fastest times within the men’s marathon at the planet championships once he set the record of 2:06:54 in Berlin.

Kirui’s gold medal was the seventh of the championships for Kenya, who swept stage within the women’s marathon.

Kirui created the decisive break around 33km, a sustained burst of pace taking him beyond Lilesa and Kipruto because the crowds lining the streets of downtown Daegu cheered him on.

Crossing the road with fingers pointing to the sky Kirui still had the energy to hop around in a very victory dance, then respectfully moved to the facet to await the arrival of his compatriot Kipruto.
