Tips on how to run a 5k race:

·       “Mind over matter”

Your legs may be hurting, your body may be sore, and your breathing is heavy, but you must finish the race with everything you have. To the point you will HURT. Use everything inside you. Even if you are slowing down, speed it up a little, so you can tell your body it’s time to wake up and move them legs!

·       Pick a person to follow

A simple game of follow to leader. Keep up with this person, and when you reach the last 400m, sprint it with all your will. You will feel accomplished after you know you passed that person.

·       Try to breathe normally.

Let’s face it, eventually, in some point of your life, your body’s physical condition will overcome your mid. Whether is be fatigue, cramps, etc. The trick is ignoring the pain. Try to breathe at a constant rate. If you do this, you’ll be able to maintain your running pace instead of slowing down.

·       Focus on a point to get to.

Don’t focus on the finish line at the start of a race; it might overwhelm you. Instead, pick sub points to lead to the grand finale. Say to yourself : “You have to get to these before you get to your goal, man.”

Also, the day before a race, eat some carbohydrates like bread ,raisins, rice, bananas, cookies, watermelons, beans, mainly foods that store energy. Then, and hour before the race, drink liquids like Gatorade, PowerAde, etc. These will restore the natural salt in your body to help you cool down–Did you ever notice you have body salt after workouts?
