Just can’t stick with endurance running? Tired of always having to quit and starting over again? Look no further! Here are some tips on sticking with your running routine. (This information was acquired through personal experience and knowledge.)
- You don’t have to deprive yourself of everything. You can still eat junk food, sparingly. Note the word sparingly. If you’re trying to lose weight by running, try only eating junk foods on one specific day. That way you can look forward to it and reward your body for all the work it did during the week.
- Think small. Don’t try to run a marathon on the first day or push yourself to the point that you’re going to throw up. For example, on your first day you might want to run maybe a block around your neighborhood or something that you can accomplish without too much effort. Gradually increase the amount you run over a period of time.
- Don’t think, just do it. (Nike’s logo) Like what Nike said, just do it. Don’t think about it. If you think about it you’re just convincing yourself to not run and stay home. Once you hit the street or track your mind will be set to try to finish the goal you planned.
- Have a running journal. Record the amount of time you ran and set goals. Write how much you improved, so you can set higher goals and improve endurance, stamina, and mentally.
- Don’t hit large meals or thirty minutes before your run. Do I really need to explain myself? (Prevention of cramps)
- Don’t become discouraged. Not every run will be better than the previous run. If you get a cramp or the infamous side stitch just stop and recover. Start over after a few minutes of rest.
- Run with a partner if you can. It’s always fun and safe to run with a partner. You can encourage each other to keep going.
