About Racism

Tonight on Facebook I wrote: Saurez banned for eight matches, Terry prosecuted for using the word black; Hansen pilloried for uttering coloured. What next? Someone replied: Paul gets prosecuted for inciting racial hatred. So, what is this racism thing all about?

Am I inciting racism by suggesting Saurez, Terry and Hansen may have been treated harshly? Alan Hansen was criticised by a “black” ex-footballer for using the quaint old expression “coloured”. As I said (again) on Facebook, is Anyone actually black or white? I have seen some dark Grey African tribesmen, but most Africans are dark brown. Me? I’m a creamy yellow with a hint of pink. To be truly black or white would be shocking!

Look at my family. My dad had brown eyes, but mine are a slatey- grey- blue. We both have been blessed with dark brown hair. I have “fair” skin and my sister is blonde. The indications are that we might have Roman, Greek, Saxon, Angle, Welsh, French, Viking and Dutch blood in our veins.

So what is racism exactly? Indeed what exactly is a “race”? I will not bore you with dictionary definitions. I suppose we are back to “tribes” and so forth. Even “families”. Distinguishing features seem to count. Like a darker skin for example. I think to be a racist you are supposed to “slag off” someone for showing some “racial” weakness. Like a German for making a poor joke. Yet all talents or shortcomings come in all colours.

Perhaps what we need is to get rid of all “nations”! We need a universal government. Like Meerkats we all cling to our territories and try to build empires. The term “United Nations” (organisation) is now antiquated.  We need a “United Universe”.

So Terry called Anton Ferdinand a “black c**t”. How exactly is that an insult? Black is a great colour. They say it contains All colours. Ebony, jet, coal, they are all black. So are the “All Blacks” New Zealand Rugby Union team. A c**t is a vag**a – the most essential feature of female reproduction.

Oh to be called a “white bas***d c**t!” White is a seeringly pure colour denoting goodness and purity. A bas***d is someone who is tough and spot-on and generally very effective. C**t we have already explained.

If only I had qualified to be described as a bas***d! Oh my. Political Correctness: pahhhh! Bring on The Revolution! I tire of this nonsense. Nuff Said. Fer Now.

Great article I say we all came from Adam and Eve and we all share the same DNA, just in different sequences.Racism is such a waste of human potential.

A wise friend once told me that the most quintessential aspect of judging whether someone or something they’be has said is/was racist is by paying attention to the conviction with which the person expressed themselves. Offensive, however, is an entirely different ballpark. In that case, it’s more up to the individual’s reaction, and thus has no such Platonic “true form”. In either case, I wouldn’t worry so much about being racist as much as making sure that you didn’t truly offend any of the people you care about.

Yes, Shooster, OFFENDING people in Any way is the issue. Calling someone **fatty** for example is not too pleasant either. I hated being called **Margarine** ( a play on my surname). Showing people Respect is what matters.
